On August 18, the last day of 2020 Shanghai Book Fair, the final part of the fair took place in the central hall at the main venue: The Launch Ceremony of Haimalong (a historical novel on archaeology and natural history) & Civilization Forum. The ceremony was attended by Prof. Jin Guangyao from the Department of History of Fudan University, Prof. Li Tiangang, chair of the Department of Religious Studies, Faculty of Philosophy, Fudan University and Vice President of the Shanghai Society of Religious Studies, Mr. Huang Tao, Editor-in-Chief of Shanghai Joint Publishing Co., Mr. Gao Shenying, Senior Reporter of Jiefang Daily, former Editor-in-Chief of Jiefang Weekend and former Director of Culture Forum, and Ms. Gu Xuewen, Chief Reporter of Jiefang Daily and Editor-in-Chief of the special issue of Reading. Prof. Li and Prof. Jin delivered keynote speeches on "'Symbols of Civilization' in the History of China and Foreign Countries" and had further interaction with over 100 readers and journalists, adding a touch of culture to the book fair.

The novel Haimalong was published by Shanghai Joint Publishing Co., with a preface written by Zheng Xinmiao, former Vice Minister of the Ministry of Culture, former Director of the Palace Museum, President of the Palace Museum Academy and President of the Chinese Poetry Society, and Ho Yong, Ph.D. in Anthropology from Columbia University and former Chinese Language Supervisor at the United Nations.

Before the launch ceremony started, many readers with all the eagerness lined up to buy the book. In the media interviews, some readers said that they had been waiting for the book, which was prefaced by Mr. Zheng Xinmiao and Dr. Ho Yong, since the very beginning of the book fair, and they were also looking forward to the forum presented by Prof. Jin Guangyao and Prof. Li Tiangang. Their enthusiasm sparked resonance with humanities on the forum.

At the beginning of the forum, Chief Reading Officer IRENE made an elegant appearance. She is a blend of technology and humanity, a combination of beauty and wisdom. In an intelligent interaction with the moderator, IRENE recommended the novel in a humorous way and delivered her insights on reading: reading is a grace; never stop reading as life goes on. The Chief Reading Officer furnished the scene with book fragrances.

As renowned experts on the mutual appreciation of Chinese and foreign civilizations, Professors Jin Guangyao and Li Tiangang delivered keynote speeches on "'Symbols of Civilization' in the History of China and Foreign Countries" and drew applause for their views. In the Q&A session, over 100 readers and journalists asked questions and exchanged ideas, adding a touch of culture to the book fair. The two professors engaged in in-depth conversations with readers on the significance of blending seahorse and dragon which are different civilization symbols in China and the West, the relationship between book reading and human civilization, the common meaning of human civilization behind the world cultural heritage, and the characteristics of blending Eastern and Western civilizations, Chinese and world civilizations in different periods and the future trends.
